Reykjavik observatory, Iceland

Tony Bulmer Reykjavik Iceland

Iceland is maybe not for everyone, especially in winter. But if you like wild beauty you will never be disappointed here at any time of year. One of the most astounding things for me is that this Island is home to so many fantastic crime writers, be it Lilja Sigurðardóttir, Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir or Arnaldur Indriðason, the bookshops here are packed with the work of home town heroes. The dark elemental spirit of Iceland is very inspiring, so it is perhaps no surprise fertile imaginations run away with themselves on the long winter nights! If you do come to Iceland—and I throughly recommend it, make time to visit the observatory/museum where I took this picture—it is the best place to get a fantastic 360° view of the entire Reykjavik area.
